An Espita man was found dead in his home Monday night, the victim of a presumed homicide.
The victim, named only as “Don Meco,” lived on Calle 28 in the Tres Cruces neighborhood, police said.
Local media reported that Don Meco received blows to the head with a machete during a drunken brawl around 7 p.m.
Suspects fled the scene, leading to a broad mobilization of municipal and state police, as well as the State Investigative Police (PEI).
The block was cordoned off after 10 p.m. at least 6 more PEI units arrived to join the investigations and find him or those responsible.
Espita, with a population of around 15,000 people, is in eastern Yucatán near Valladolid and Izamal. Its tourism has grown after some upscale guesthouses have opened in the colonial Centro Histórico.
