Merida, Yucatan — Classes at the UADY science and engineering school are suspended Monday after an alleged shooting threat.
Authorities were alarmed when a university student allegedly used the WhatsApp message platform to warn others that he would be targeting classmates with a shotgun today. The alert went viral on the same platform.
Another version of the message characterizes the warning as a bad joke. But school officials are not taking chances.
A UADY spokesman, Granados Pech, said the threat is false, but still enough to warrant closing campus.
School activities are scheduled to resume at 3 p.m. today.
The campus is north of the Periferico in the city’s west side.
